Whey protein shakes are a fantastic way to get extra protein in your diet.

You need extra protein in your diet when you want to lose fat and build muscle.  life is busy and it helps to have convenient way to get the extra protein you need.

 Don’t get me wrong……Hard training is required too, but if you are not eating the right foods and enough protein then you are not going to acheive your goal.

Why is whey protein so great?

  •  It is convenient.  You can take it anywhere .
  •  It tastes great.  There are many delicious flavors to choose from.
  •  It has many health benefits.

Here are a few of whey protein’s health benefits

1. It promotes healthy immune function.
2. It helps to stabalize blood sugar to aid fat loss and boost energy.
3. It helps the body recover after intense exercise.
4. It helps to balance appetite when included in a healthy diet. This reduces
    food cravings and makes it easier to stick to a clean diet.

5. It provides the extra protein needed to help the body build new muscle which will equal a leaner and meaner you!  Woo hoo!

I am a creature of habit.  I eat my foods because they provide the right nutrients for my body to reach its’ goals.  Food is fuel to me but hey…..it’s  nice to have some variety in your eating too.  I also recognize that most people are not like me.  Adding some variety will make your taste buds happy but it will also pack an extra nutrient power punch that may make reaching your goals even easier.

Here are a few of my favorite protein shake recipes.

Chocolate Monkey:

  • 1 scoop I-PLX peanut butter chocolate protein powder- by Precision Supplmeents.  This is my protein of choice.  You can use another if you wish.   You can find information on IPLX at www.precisionsupplements.ca
  • 1 tbsp of Kraft All Natural Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup organic skim milk.  You can use almond milk or soy milk as well.
  • 1/2-1 banana as you desire
  • 2 tsp ground flax seeds

Mix all ingredients together in a blender and blend until smooth.  Add ice and blend some  more.  You can add as much ice as you like to make the shake even thicker.

 Approx 483cals, 41gp, 10.8gf, 31.3gc based on using only 1/2 a banana.

 

Avocado Avalanche

  • 1 scoop I-PLX protein- vanilla or chocolate flavor from Precision Supplements.   This is my protein of choice.  I like using chocolate for this one.
  • 1 cup organic skim milk or unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 avocado to whole avocado depending on goals and needs
  • packet of stevia or sucralose to sweeten if desired

This can also be made with straight water if dieting for a show.

Blend together with ice to taste.  You can make this shake thicker and more like a pudding if you put less liquid in or more ingredients depending on individual size and goals.

Approx:  359 cals, 15.5gf, 19gc, 37.6gp.  This is with 1/2 avocado and skim milk.

 

Phytoberry Blast

  • 1 scoop Phytoberry powder by Progressive Nutrtitional Therapies.   www.progressivenutritional.com
  • 1 scoop I-PLX vanilla protein  powder.  By Precision Supplements.  My protein of choice. 
  • 1/2 cup fresh berries or frozen mixed berries.    Organic berries are preferred.
  • 6-8 oz of water
  • ice

Blend all ingredients together until smooth.  Blend in ice after ingredients have been mixed thoroughly. This can also be made into a popsickle or frozen slushy.

Approx 210cals, 20.5gc, 27.5gp, .5 gf
